Understanding the Challenges Faced by Kynd to find the solution
Every product development journey carries its own set of hurdles. For Kynd Period, co-founders Shiza & Natalie faced a unique mix of technical and operational challenges in their mission to create truly ethical, high performance period underwear.
One major concern was the bulkiness of conventional products, many prioritise absorbency but compromise comfort, leaving wearers feeling heavy and restricted. Kynd was determined to change that by developing a sleeker, slimmer profile that retained high absorbency, ensuring both comfort and functionality.
Leakage was one of the most critical concerns Kynd set out to solve. Traditional period underwear often failed to offer full protection, leading to leaks and causing stress for users during everyday activities. Kynd knew that for Kynd to truly make a difference, the product needed to offer dependable, high-performance absorbency without fail. That’s why the team focused on sourcing reliable, high-quality absorbent materials and implementing strict quality controls to ensure consistent performance with every wear. However, performance alone wasn’t enough. Kynd is committed to eliminating all chemical additives ensuring the final product.
Operationally, one of the most pressing challenges was the lack of transparency in the industry. From sourcing to manufacturing, many brands fall short in offering traceability, leaving customers in the dark. Kynd set out to change this by working only with certified factories and materials, ensuring ethical labour practices and fair working conditions across its supply chain. The brand also faced the challenge of inconsistent product quality and fit, often caused by unreliable manufacturing standards. By choosing partners with third-party certifications, Kynd ensured not only quality control but also a strong ethical backbone.

Material
When sourcing materials, we prioritise chemical safety and sustainable manufacturing practices. Since period underwear is a hygiene product, we place extra importance on selecting skin-safe, non-toxic fabrics that meet international quality standards. For this reason, we consider OEKO-TEX®-certified and PFAS-free fabrics in our production process.
Supply chain
We focused heavily on transparency. Through our Seamless Source platform, we connected Kynd directly with our certified suppliers, who offer tax benefits through the DCTS scheme and provide faster lead times. This allowed Kynd to communicate clearly with suppliers, understand their capabilities, and feel fully in control of the process. Kynd could trace the product journey from fabric sourcing to final production, and we made sure that everything aligned with Kynd’s expectations.
Beyond product engineering, Kynd also cared deeply about ethical labour practices, and we delivered on that front by producing their product in our manufacturing units based in Sri Lanka. These units follow strict standards around fair wages, safe working conditions, and environmental compliance.
Technology
We introduced ultrasonic bonding technology. This technique replaces traditional stitching with heat-sealed seams, which not only reduces bulk but also eliminates leak points. It makes the final product smoother, lighter, and far more comfortable to wear, especially for longer hours.
Construction
We also engineered a gusset with four specialised layers, designed to maximise absorption and comfort, tailored precisely for the target users.
1. Wicking Layer
This top layer is designed to quickly draw moisture away from the skin, keeping the wearer dry and comfortable. It helps reduce the feeling of wetness and irritation.
2. Absorbent Layer
Located beneath the wicking layer, this layer traps and holds fluid effectively. It’s engineered to provide high absorbency and eliminate leakage by locking in moisture.
3. Leak-Proof Layer
This waterproof barrier prevents any liquid from seeping through to clothing. It adds a crucial level of protection and peace of mind.
4. Breathable Outer Layer
The final outer layer allows airflow while maintaining protection. It ensures breathability to keep the product comfortable for all-day wear, preventing heat and moisture buildup.

Supply chain transparency
As part of our commitment to supply chain transparency, we offered Kynd access to our Digital Product Passport (DPP), a smart, digital tool that stores and shares key product information across the entire lifecycle. From raw material sourcing and certified factory details to environmental impact and certifications, the DPP allowed Kynd to trace and verify every stage of the product journey with ease.
The successful implementation of the DPP not only helped Kynd build stronger trust with its customers but also positioned the brand ahead of future regulatory changes like the EU’s Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR).
